Epic Project DONE!

Image
On July 26, 2011, I started this afghan - the  Textured Knots Afghan by Norah Gaughan .  I knit it out of  Plymouth Encore Worsted  in the Cream colorway.  This yarn is a durable acrylic/wool blend that washes and dries very well.  It is well-suited to children's clothes and items that take a lot of abuse, such as afghans. So, I have basically worked on this afghan off and on for about 1 1/2 years.  When it outgrew the "take-along project" size, it lived permanently next to my chair in the family room.  Although the pattern has a complicated cable pattern, I found I could keep up with it pretty well by enlarging the chart, and color-coding the different types of cables:                                   So.  What began as THIS:                           ...

2012's Number Is...

Recently a friend of mine said she'd set a goal to read 175 books in 2012, and she had met it in October.  I am astounded by this!  In the early 2000s, I had a goal to read 50 books a year and used to just barely make it.  I stopped counting several years ago, but this 175 books thing got me curious, so through the magic of show notes and Goodreads, I was able to make a list of the books I read in 2012.  Apparently either the podcast or my habit of listening to books most of the time has increased my numbers, because I blew past 50 without even trying!  Here is every book I read in 2012: Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay One Mississippi by Mark Childress Bossypants by Tina Fey The Language of Secrets by Diane Dixon Getting Stoned With Savages by J. Maarten Troost Florida Roadkill by Tim Dorsey The Monkey's Raincoat by Robert Crais The Paris Wife by Paula McLain The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde What I ...
