Epic Project DONE!

On July 26, 2011, I started this afghan - the Textured Knots Afghan by Norah Gaughan.  I knit it out of Plymouth Encore Worsted in the Cream colorway.  This yarn is a durable acrylic/wool blend that washes and dries very well.  It is well-suited to children's clothes and items that take a lot of abuse, such as afghans.

So, I have basically worked on this afghan off and on for about 1 1/2 years.  When it outgrew the "take-along project" size, it lived permanently next to my chair in the family room.  Although the pattern has a complicated cable pattern, I found I could keep up with it pretty well by enlarging the chart, and color-coding the different types of cables:

                                  So.  What began as THIS:

                                    Has turned into THIS:

I am very happy with our new afghan!  The pattern called for you to stop knitting the 32-row cable repeat at 60 inches to start the edging.  I stopped at 50 inches instead, and it seems to be just the right size to keep one nice and cozy on the couch while watching, let's say, maybe "Downton Abbey" on a cold winter's evening.
